Cool Cat Activities and Resources:
Can you believe that it is already our last week of school? This week, the Cool Cats will be celebrating an amazing year together in Pre-K. Even though it may have been an unpredictable year, we are still so happy to have gotten to know everyone and share so many wonderful memories together. Here is a list of activities you can do with your child at home. Remember, all of these activities are completely optional and you can pick and choose which ones you would like to do with your child. Please share pictures and videos of what you do; we would love to see your creations!

![]() Time Capsule
Wouldn’t it be fun to create a memory box of all the things you and your child did this year in Pre-K? A plastic or metal storage container will work well for this, and you can decorate it with markers and stickers. Ask your child what they would like to put inside: photographs, favorite toys, drawings, or anything else they come up with. A nice idea to put inside would be a letter to your future self (help your child write the words) or these handy printables (one and two). Find a place to bury your time capsule in the yard and don’t forget to set a future date for opening it! ![]() My Year in the Cool Cats
Have your child use their Pre-K learned writing skills to write their own story about this school year. Who are the characters and what was the setting? What happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the school year? Encourage your child to sound out words and independently write the names of their classmates and teachers. This could be a good time to talk about the feelings your child has about the school year being interrupted by the Coronavirus and include them in their story. It also may be helpful to relive all the fun they had with their friends at school and talk about all the things they learned and experienced. ![]() Graduation Caps
Just because we aren’t at school doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate your child’s completion of Pre-K! You can create an easy make-your-own graduation cap with black oaktag, tape, a stapler and ribbon. Cut the oaktag into two pieces, one large square and a long strip about 3 inches wide. Poke a hole in the square paper and push the ribbon through, taping it to the inside. Roll up the strip and use the stapler to fasten, then tape it to the underside of the square. Ta-da! You now have your own handmade graduation cap to wear. |
![]() Pre-K Diploma
Finishing Pre-K is a great accomplishment! Why not commemorate the occasion with a Pre-K diploma? You can create your own with construction paper and help your child write the letters, or use one of the many printable versions available online. (Here is a great one) Have your child write their own name on the diploma and hang it up somewhere special! ![]() Picture Frames
Do you and your child have a favorite photograph from their time in the Cool Cats? You can create a handmade picture frame to showcase that memory! You will need craft sticks (at least 4), a piece of cardboard, glue, paint, and any craft materials you would like to use. First, glue your special photograph to a piece of cardboard. Let your child paint the craft sticks in any color they choose and glue them in a square or rectangle shape. When they dry, your child can then decorate the frame with sequins, buttons, glitter, or anything else they choose to make the frame look beautiful. Put glue on the back of the frame and put it directly on top of your cardboard-backed photograph. When it dries, you can attach a magnet or hang your picture frame by a string to display it somewhere special! ![]() Now I Can..
It’s been a great Pre-K year with a lot of growth for your child: physical, emotional, social and academic. Help your child take pride in all they have learned by making a list of all the things they learned to do during this school year. Some examples of things you could put on your list might include: “Now I can tie my own shoes”, “Now I can use my words when I am upset” “Now I can count to 20” or “Now I can name every letter in the alphabet.” You can also encourage your child to make a separate list of things they would like to do next year, like learning to ride a bike with no training wheels, or reading a book all by themselves. |
