3:00 - 3:45 pm: Jeane Harris - What Jews of Color Experience in our Metro Philly Jewish Community. Seize the fierce urgency of now in a panel discussion engaging conversation on racial justice and audacious hospitality in our congregations.
American Judaism and our congregations are enjoying the blessing of increased heritage diversity. Join members of our community in a reflection on the personal experiences of Jews of Color in our Metro Philly Jewish Community with a special focus on the call to champion racial justice at this critical moment.
Jeane Harris feels at home almost everywhere. Like the creators of Superman, she hails from Cleveland, OH and graduated from Glenville High School. After majoring in History at Denison University in Granville, OH, she moved to Philadelphia in 1984. Marriage to a Havertown native led to nine moves on three continents over twenty-five years as American diplomats, with the bulk of those years working and traveling in Africa. Jeane taught in international schools in west Africa, administered grants to benefit orphans and vulnerable children impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in southern Africa, raised a daughter and son, and found Jewish community in every single place, even when it was DIY.  Since her return to the US, Jeane’s adventures have a more local flavor—organic gardening, creative cooking, making music, pursuing Justice. She and her husband Andy reside in West Chester, surrounded by woods and wildlife.
