Cradles-to-Crayons (C2C) Clothing and Book Donation & More
Cradles to Crayons is a non-profit organization that provides children (ages 0-12 years) living in poverty in the Philly region with essentials for basic living. If you are interested in participating in this activity, please refer to this link for guidelines for your gently used clothing (sizes NM-Adult M) and children's book collections. *Don't forget to perform C2C's quality check!* Items most needed at this time are: boys pants and long sleeve shirts (sizes 5/6 - 18/20); winter coats (18-24m/2T), new underwear and socks (all sizes). You will also need trash bags and rubber bands to put your donations together. **Also check out the fun art activities that little ones can do (making bookmarks and greeting cards for kids)!** Bring your bundled donations and any artwork to MLRT on MLK Day between 3:00 -5:00 pm. Toiletry Donations and Bag Assembly for Lankenau Maternity Clinic This year, we will be collecting gift bags of trial-sized toiletries, to be given to the patients of Lankenau’s maternity clinic. You can participate in one of two ways: 1) you can make individually pre-assembled bags with trial-sized containers of shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant, etc, placed in a sandwich baggie or cellophane bag or 2) you can sign up HERE to purchase various items needed to make the gift bags and bring them to MLRT on or before MLK Day. In each case, you can deliver the gift bags or the purchased items to MLRT on MLK Day between 3:00-5:00 pm |
Salad Making for Narberth Community Food Bank and Ardmore Food Pantry
This year we need volunteers to make salads at home for the Ardmore Food Pantry and Narberth Community Food Bank. To participate, please sign up HERE. Jill Altshuler, the project coordinator, will deliver the salad containers you will be filling to those who sign up! At the end of our Day of Service, please deliver your delicious and nutritious salads to MLRT. Period Supply Collection For Mitzvah Circle Foundation Did you know that period supplies are not covered by the SNAP assistance program??!! It’s true! And many women and girls are forced to stay home from school or work because they do not have the proper supplies. Collect supplies from your friends and neighbors and drop them off at MLRT before or on MLK Day, and we will deliver them to Mitzvah Circle Foundation in Norristown. They will then distribute them to the families and agencies that they serve. ECE Artwork Collection for Saunders House The ECE is collecting artwork and decorations for the residents at Saunders House. These will go on display on the residents’ doors so everyone can see them from the hallway. Please help your little one to make something - a welcome sign, a snowflake, or a picture - to be collected on MLK Day from 3:00-5:00 pm at MLRT. All decorations will be taken to Saunders House on Friday, 1/22. |

BIG BROTHER, BIG SISTER: Get Involved! Be a Mentor!
As a synagogue community, we seek ways to get involved, to help those less fortunate, and to make the world a better place. We believe that MLRT now has such an opportunity, and we invite you to learn more about it so that you can decide if you would like to be a part of the effort.
Marcus Allen, CEO of Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Philadelphia, spoke this summer to a group of MLRT members and indicated that his organization is in need of more volunteer mentors to guide and assist children and young adults in our community.
On Monday, January 18, beginning at 2:00 pm, as part of our Martin Luther King Day of Service program, we invite you to a 1-hour Zoom information session about becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to some adjustments in the activities in the mentoring process, and all of this will be discussed on the call. Please register here!
